Another yarn I love to use for my amigurumis is the rainbow cotton yarn from Hobbii. This yarn is available in three different yarn weights: 8/4 = fingering, 8/8 = DK and the 8/6 is somewhere in-between the other two.
Both yarns have a gorgeous selection of yarn colors to choose from, so you should have no trouble finding the right colors for your project.
You can use any yarn to make this unicorn, cotton or acrylic yarns usually work best for amigurumi and the most commonly used yarn weight is from fingering to worsted. For more information on yarn weights, you can check out this standard yarn weight table by the Craft Yarn Council.
Note: Plastic safety eyes are not recommended for children under three. So if you are gifting this unicorn to young children, moms will love that you made your it safe for their little one by crocheting your eyes from yarn instead. This crochet unicorn pattern will show you how you can easily make embroidered eyes using yarn or embroidery thread. In fact, I actually prefer using these eyes for some of my amigurumi over the safety eyes.
